Pavement Princesses by Kathy Woods

Pavement Princesses
by Kathy Woods
1977, Fawcett Gold Medal

A thin veneer of investigative journalism over Penthouse Forum style smut vignettes of the pavement princesses, also known as lot lizards, sex workers who frequent truck stops. A few accounts make some attempt at realism, but a lot of the narrative depends on the notion that truckers are incredibly desirable and women get on the game for the amazing sex. Too sleazy for a sociological text, a bit restrained for 70s smut, though some interest as a time capsule.

Encyclopedia of Abnormal Sex by Roger Blake

Encyclopedia of Abnormal Sex
by Roger Blake
1965, Brandon House

One of a flood of fake sexology texts that came in the wake of the Kinsey Report, the fake scholarship used as a cover for hard core vignettes.

Highlights include a family straight out of the Aristocrats, a bike seat sniffing high school janitor, and a man who would gather up a crowd of homeless people to watch him be buggered by his chauffer, which I think was a line in Soft Cell's Sex Dwarf.

The only move new to me was 69 bagpiping, and the claim that Europeans and gay Americans are way more into armpits than American straights are.

An interesting aspect is how much is invested in the male/sadist/dominant and female/masochist/submissive binary.

Along Came a Swapper

Along Came a Swapper
by Richard B. Long
1970, Adult Books

Two couples swap partners, eventually leading to a swingers party. I guess Long thought a subplot was needed - one of the husbands talks to his boss every few dozen pages about how it would suck to be industrial espionaged. After the swingers party turns out the entire set up was to blackmail him in an industrial espionage scheme. The wife worries about her reputation so she divorces him and moves in with the blackmailers, while the husband tells his boss, who doesn't care.

Black Brute 2: Runaway Slave aka Rampage by Robert Tralins

Black Brute 2
Runaway Slave aka Rampage
by Robert Tralins
1969 Lancer

Brutus escapes being eaten by hogs much like Glenn did with zombies in The Walking Dead and travels north. His crazed enslaver Jeremy recruits even more brutal Matthew to track Brutus down. Brutus is recaptured and forced to turn a gristmill 20 hours a day, taken out of chains only to participate in a donkey show.

Jeremy's brother in law Haroun steals some gold to buy back his sister, who Jeremy sold after cutting her tongue out. Matthew steals the rest of the gold stash and frames Jeremy. He pretends to go after Haroun and rapes an innkeeper and her two daughters along the way.

Jeremy makes an attempt at respectability and courts a young woman with progressive ideals, while also bedding her widowed mother. The young lady bangs Brutus and aids his escape, getting raped by Matthew in the process.

Nasty, brutish, and short.

Kaheesh by Nathan Butler

Kaheesh
by Nathan Butler (Jerry Sohl)
1973 Fawcett

A family on vacation runs into a Hinduish holy man, Kaheesh.  The husband wants to study under him before becoming sick.  The wife is forced to sleep with Kaheesh or he will psychically increase her husbands fever.  Turns out she was his lover from previous incarnations.

Lots of telling, because good lord there's nothing to show.  The novel is packaged as a combination of sleaze and horror, and fails miserably on both fronts.  A titch of anxiety with Kaheesh influencing the family, nothing as scary as grandma giving all her money to a televangelist.  Tame sex sequences - after she gets back with her husband she shows her shameless adventurous side by having sex in the shower.

Nathan Butler is the name science fiction write Jerry Sohl used when writing sleaze, all of which has been reissued in ebook form.
